The Union buildings group (1930s) which included the Union cloisters. His observation of cloisters on his European tour in 1914 led him to write: ‘There is nothing so peaceful and satisfying in Architecture as a Cloister or a Quad those at Oxford are in their way as pleasing as the dear Italian cloisters … ’ (Bagot to Laybourne Smith, 11 October 1914).
